Important Notice For All Applicants
As an applicant for a license requiring the submission of fingerprints to both the CBI and FBI, your fingerprints will be submitted to check both state and federal arrest records and are retained by each agency. The information below includes instructions on how to challenge the results of this record check with the applicable law enforcement agency if there are discrepancies or inaccuracies within your record.
Discrepancies on your Colorado arrest record can be challenged and corrected by following the instructions located on CBI’s website. If you have additional questions about the record challenge process, you may contact CBI’s identification unit at (303) 239-4208. You can also take your dispute directly to the arresting agency.
Colorado Bureau of Investigation
Discrepancies with records from the FBI relating to another state law enforcement entity may be challenged through that state law enforcement agency and/or directly with the FBI. The U.S. Department of Justice Order 556-73 establishes rules and regulations for the subject of an FBI identification record to obtain a copy of his or her own record for review, as well as for instructions on how to challenge that information. The subject of a record may direct his/her challenge as to the accuracy or completeness of any entry on his/her record to the FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, ATTN: SCU, Mod. D-2, 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, WV, 26306.
The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division processes these requests.
