At the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI), we understand that many of you, whether you live in a stand-alone house, condominium, or townhome are grappling with the burden of high homeowners insurance costs, or finding it challenging to secure suitable coverage.
In response to your concerns and in conjunction with legislation passed in 2023 - House Bill (HB) 23-1174, Homeowners Insurance and Underinsurance - the DOI is launching a study to look into the factors affecting these costs and to make potential policy recommendations.
We want to hear about the challenges that you’re facing with the affordability of homeowners insurance premiums for single and multi-family homes, and we are excited to work together to find solutions. A key component to finding those solutions will necessarily be identifying the causes of homeowners insurance affordability issues in Colorado. We’re also looking for ideas on ways to address these issues. That will be part of the work that we do through these stakeholder meetings as well.
Your experiences, insights, and suggestions are vital to this mission. They will enrich our understanding and help guide policy recommendations to better serve the diverse needs of Colorado homeowners.
