Critical date for individual health insurance approaches.

The Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI), part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), reminds Coloradans who need individual health insurance (meaning not from an employer) that a critical deadline is coming up on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Even though open enrollment continues here in Colorado until Jan. 15, 2021, people who want coverage in place by Jan. 1, must complete their enrollment by Dec. 15

“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is critical that people enroll in coverage as soon as possible,” said Colorado Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway. “It’s always important to have coverage to protect you if you get sick or injured, and that is especially the case as the pandemic continues to impact all of us. And as we see a vaccine become reality this week and we have light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic, it’s important to know that having health insurance will cover the vaccine’s costs. So getting enrolled for 2021 becomes even more critical for Coloradans.”.

Colorado individual health insurance consumers can enroll with insurance agents, directly with the insurance companies or through our state’s exchange, Connect for Health Colorado. They can enroll directly on the Connect website connectforhealthco.com, get help by calling 855-752-6749 or find in-person assistance through their statewide network of certified experts at connectforhealthco.com/we-can-help. In addition, Connect for Health offers tools such as the Quick Cost & Plan Finder that can help you check if you are eligible for financial assistance and find a plan that fits your needs. Enrolling through Connect is the only way to receive financial help that can make health insurance more affordable.

Connect for Health Colorado recently announced that through Dec. 6, more than 148,000 Coloradans have signed up for health insurance. Initial enrollment totals show that more Coloradans are getting covered this open enrollment period as the pandemic grows in Colorado.
