Meetings to focus on rural, community, and consumer concerns

DENVER - The Colorado Division of Insurance is hosting a series of virtual stakeholder meetings designed to address specific stakeholder groups and the concerns of those groups regarding the Colorado Option and the standardized benefit plan being developed. While there are meetings geared towards insurance companies, health care providers and facilities, , there are additional meetings geared toward Coloradans outside of the health care industry.

A meeting on September 8, will be specifically for individuals and community groups to ask their questions and share their comments about the Colorado Option and the standardized plan.

Another meeting on September 13, is for members of Colorado’s rural communities to share their comments.

Note that these meetings are in addition to the six general stakeholder meetings about the standardized plan already scheduled. Outside of these meetings, people are also encouraged to share their comments, suggestions and questions on the standardized plan via email at dora_ins_co_option@state.co.us

While the Division will share general information about the standardized plan framework, the larger goal is to hear questions and comments from the participants. These meetings will be virtual, open to the public, and participants must register to attend - see the links below. Call in numbers are included in the registration for those with limited bandwidth or who prefer not to use Zoom.

  • For Consumer Advocates, Community Groups and Individuals, Wednesday, September 8, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Register for this meeting (Spanish translation will be available at this meeting)
  • For Rural Communities, Monday, September 13, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Register for this meeting (Spanish translation will be available at this meeting)

Any materials or slides will be made available on the Division’s website.

“The Division wants to hear from Coloradans with their thoughts, ideas and concerns about the Colorado Option and the standard benefit plan. If we want it to work for people, we need to hear from people and answer their questions,” said Colorado Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway. “And because these meetings are virtual and in the evening, we’re hoping to provide more access so that people can share their ideas.”

Throughout this process, the Division will also accept comments and feedback on the standardized plan via email (dora_ins_co_option@state.co.us).

Starting in 2023, the Colorado Option will be available to all Coloradans who buy their health insurance on the individual market (i.e., not from an employer) and small employers with less than 100 employees.  As part of the Colorado Option, the Division of Insurance will create a standardized plan which will allow consumers and businesses to easily compare plans and choose the plan that is right for them. This plan will cover all essential health benefits required by the Affordable Care Act, and is being  designed to reduce racial health disparities and improve health equity.
